The boulder earthquake of 2020 - 4/20/20
As I am sure most of you have heard, Boulder had a massive earthquake last night. Of course, the Katie Taylor campaign has already covered this topic with her plan of action. Her team has been working tirelessly to assist those in need in their recovery from this horrible event. As you may know, the death toll has totaled at 27 student deaths and many people are still unaccounted for. Additionally, the town has sustained major damage with a repair cost total estimated around 120 million dollars. The Taylor Campaign’s support plan has provided temporary shelters and food for the many people in need. Many insulated tents equipped with water filters have been donated by the Taylor Campaign and assembled for survivors whose homes were destroyed. Temporary food sources have been established in these areas for people in need.
As for long term solutions, plans for more structurally sound buildings are being worked on at the moment, in case of a future catastrophic event. Of course, for now the main goal is to account for everyone involved in the event and to create a casualties list. Furthermore, schooling looking ahead will have to be drastically changed. The Taylor Campaign’s proposal is that, since students have been sent home, they should spend the summer recovering from this traumatic event (since many have lost friends). When they return the following semester, if the buildings are not rebuilt yet, schooling will be done via online platforms. Additionally, student fees and loans for this year are being relieved to further ease the shock of the event. The funding for this extensive project is being provided by various organizations who sponsor the Taylor Campaign and share its values.
